Impromptu Elena.

Sometimes, others’ loss is your gain. On this occasion, I’d booked lovely model Elena to pose for a short, fairly casual, studio lighting demonstration for two clients but despite having paid in advance, they failed to turn up. This meant that Elena and I could either call it a day and go home or make the most of the opportunity for a quick shoot in my studio and around the building. We went for the latter option and I was chuffed with some of the results. It was a cold wintry evening and I was in the mood for some noirish filmic images. Good job I took my camera!

Alex: The First Shoot

One from the vaults now to celebrate the welcome return of one of my external hard drives from the data recovery people (don’t ask)…

Sometimes, the first shoot with a model is enough to make you fairly certain that you’ll be working with them again. In this case, the stunning Alex came in to my (Fotofilia) studio in October 2014 to model for a simple group “Studio Roam” shoot where the whole premises were up for grabs as potential locations. Since then I’ve worked with Alex many times, from location shoots on frozen city streets to fashion shoots for one of my designer clients and she is always a delight to work with. So here are a few shots from that very first shoot:

Bethany Reynolds Fashion Shoot

The last (as in final) FOTO-CLUB workshop at Strangetown Studio was a fashion shoot featuring the beautiful Bethany Reynolds, a young model I’d wanted to work with for some time.  I think it’s safe to say that it was a successful evening with everyone walking away with a selection of tremendous images.

Here is a quick selection of images that I took during the evening (all shot on my Nikon DSLR)…

Winter Sunshine

Please forgive a bit of self-indulgent nostalgia. One of the highlights of the year, in so many ways, was the second FOTO-CLUB Spain trip. Same villa, a couple of the same models and I’m ashamed to say I haven’t posted any of these here before. Funny how being snowed-in for two days makes you pine for Spanish sunshine. Here’s the stunning Lauren, who despite insisting she was not a model, turned out to be one of the best models I’ve ever worked with…

“Booster”: Lottie Locke

The recent “Strangetown Booster” shoot that I ran through FOTO-CLUB gave a small group of photographers the opportunity to photograph four models in my Strangetown Studio and around the Telsen building in which it’s based.

I was more than happy to have an excuse to bring back the gloriously beautiful Charlotte “Lottie” Locke for the event and as it was mid-summer, the light evening meant that we were able to use both natural window-light, studio flash, and ambient light (augmented with our own LED lighting) elsewhere in the building.

Always an utter delight to work with, Lottie managed to cover everything from classic high-key beauty to grungey urban rock-chick in a single evening. Note to self: Book her again soon!

Back Down To The River

For the past few years, once the worst of the frost has gone and our week of British summertime looked like it might be imminent, I’ve organised a “Nude In The Landscape” workshop at my friend’s beautiful riverside smallholding in rural Warwickshire. Even the rain hasn’t been able to spoil these lovely art nude photo-shoots.

And I’ve done it again. This year’s event takes place on Sunday 25th June starting at 10:30am and I’m delighted to announce that the model on this occasion will be the stunning Cally, a wonderful model who has previously featured in other location art nude events for me.

Gypsy Caravan Shoot With Ivory Flame

There are some shoot ideas that just hang around in your head for years and then one day, the opportunity arises to make them a reality. Such was the case with the forthcoming FOTO-CLUBGypsy Caravan Shoot With Ivory Flame“. Ever since I first worked with the wonderful Ivory Flame a few years ago, I’ve thought “Wouldn’t it be wonderful to do a gypsy-themed shoot with Ivory Flame and a traditional horse-drawn gypsy caravan…”.

And then, as if by magic, when looking around the beautiful house and gardens that were to be used for the “Luxury House Fashion Shoot” a few months back, there, at the end of the huge garden… was an original, authentic gypsy caravan. Suddenly it fell into place and I quickly asked the owner if it would be possible to use it for a shoot.

There was only ever one model I wanted for this. Ivory Flame. The epitome of ethereal and natural “English Rose” beauty with a bucket of Pre-Raphaelite influence and a hint of Celt thrown in.

I look forward to posting the images here soon, but there are still spaces if you’d like to join us. The venue’s address will be revealed once you’ve booked but it is near Lapworth, Solihull.

Re-edit: Art Nude with Hannah

Looking through old hard drives for individual images for a client is a tedious business but occasionally leads to rediscovery of images you’d almost forgotten. In this case, the lovely Hannah was photographed as part of one of my “Portfolio Booster” courses. The original image was very pleasant as it was but Hannah’s very “classical” look inspired me to re-edit it with a more “painterly” look.

And once I’d found one, I was on a roll and couldn’t resist doing a second along the same lines…
